About Massey University

Te Kunenga ki Pūrehuroa Massey University was established in 1927 and is one of Aotearoa New Zealand’s leading universities with over 30,000 students and about 3,200 academic and professional staff. Massey consistently ranks in the top 3% of universities worldwide (QS rankings). Massey’s research stands out among the country’s universities in its emphasis on, and success in, connecting its researchers to communities and industries. In teaching, Massey differentiates itself by having specialised since its inception in pedagogy and delivery modalities for distance education; about two-thirds of its students are enrolled in distance education across one of the 205 available qualifications. Massey University is deeply committed to being led by the principles and spirit of the nation’s founding document: Te Tiriti o Waitangi (the Treaty of Waitangi) of 1840 between the Crown and Māori as Aotearoa’s indigenous people. To illustrate Massey’s engagement with the Pacific region: eight of the eleven major research grants awarded in 2021 had an explicit regional perspective.
