About University of Madeira

The University of Madeira (UMa) is a vibrant institution dedicated to education, research, and innovation in Madeira, Portugal. Established in 1988, UMa evolved from earlier institutions like the University Institute of Madeira and the Music Conservatory of Madeira, making it a cornerstone of academic and cultural development in the region.

With its main campus at Penteada University Campus and additional facilities like the Madeira Interactive Technologies Institute (M-ITI), UMa offers undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral programs. These programs align with international standards, including the Bologna Process, and emphasize global citizenship, sustainability, and lifelong learning.

UMa collaborates with local and international communities, fostering partnerships with government bodies, businesses, and professional associations. Its efforts support student mobility within the European Higher Education Area and provide graduates with the tools for success in an interconnected world. Through interdisciplinary research, innovation, and entrepreneurial initiatives, UMa prepares its students to address global challenges while contributing to the socio-economic growth of Madeira and beyond.
