Dr. Laurie Brinklow, an accomplished writer, editor, and former book publisher at Charlottetown’s Acorn Press, currently serves as the Assistant Professor and Coordinator of the Master of Arts in Island Studies (MAIS) program at the University of Prince Edward Island. Additionally, she chairs the Institute of Island Studies Executive Committee, demonstrating her commitment to advancing island studies and identity research.
Her extensive involvement in the field includes chairing impactful conferences and serving as President of the International Small Islands Studies Association (ISISA). Dr. Brinklow’s dedication to education has been recognized through prestigious awards, including the Hessian Merit Award for Excellence in Teaching and the Prince Edward Island Book Award for Poetry for her publication “My island’s the house I sleep in at night.”
Dr. Brinklow’s research focuses on islandness and island identity, emphasising the significance of place and storytelling. She actively participates in initiatives such as ‘Island Studies: A Global Classroom’, fostering knowledge-sharing among researchers and scholars from island universities worldwide. Furthermore, her role as Iceland’s Honorary Consul to Prince Edward Island reflects her global impact within the field of island studies.
