About Sophie Isaacson

I’m Sophie, I grew up on the beautiful Island of Tiree. I was raised by the community of Tiree, where I grew up with a string sense of place, with songs from our island and the dialect and language of the island flowing from my lips. Tiree is a 4 hour ferry journey from mainland Scotland and is wild, exposed, remote and stunning. My upbringing filled me with a passion for community development and showed me just what a community can achieve for itself when it works together and for itself. I left Tiree aged 26 and moved to the Island of Skye, another island with strong culture and drive. I live and work in this community working for equitable health services despite our extremely remote setting. I am brought to tears every time a community member feels empowered and stands up for their people to push for better services, for developments for their island community. I live amongst some of the most resilient people I have ever met and the way of life, culture, language, crofting that I see and hear on a daily basis is beautiful and inspiring.
