Anyone, of any age, who resides or has resided on an island, and wishes to represent their island/country can apply to become an Island Innovation Ambassador. They will represent their country and network with policy-makers, entrepreneurs and NGO leaders while gaining industry experience, exposure and recognition.

About the program

The Ambassador program aims to integrate and combine networking, sustainability, diversity, entertainment, and knowledge. However, only applicants who are strongly committed to building more sustainable islands and will participate in our activities and meetings are accepted into the program.

How it works

The Ambassador program lasts a calendar year, starting in January and ending in December. There are 4 key phases:

  • First Quarter: Theoretical phase of participation in workshops/training to acquire knowledge
  • Second Quarter: Practical Phase to organise Virtual Hubs and online Programs
  • Third Quarter: Promotion phase in social networks of Virtual Island Summit
  • Fourth Quarter: Follow up and action after Virtual Island Summit


Frequently Asked Questions

How much time will being an Ambassador take?

We anticipate that Ambassadors will be required to spend 1-2 hours per week throughout the year, with additional hours in busy periods. As part of your commitment you will be required to join in monthly training sessions and meetings as well as helping to promote our virtual events.

What are the full application requirements?

  • Applicants can be of any age
  • Have an island connection
  • Be passionate about islands issues, innovation and sustainable development
  • Have a desire to change the world
  • Must be highly motivated to represent their island/country in our network
  • Committed to participating in meetings and trainings

I don’t have the time available to be an Ambassador, how else can I contribute?

There are a number of ways you can still contribute including article submissions and sharing news, best practices and insights with the community.

I was an Ambassador last year, can I still apply for 2022?

Yes! If you’ve enjoyed being an Island Innovation Ambassador we recommend applying again the following year. We have a number of Ambassadors who have been part of the program for consecutive years.

Is there a fee involved in the application process?

No, our program is open to all and there are no fees involved in becoming an Ambassador.
