About Simon Turkas

I am responsible for creating content for the Island Innovation social media accounts and engaging with and growing the number of followers, in addition to writing articles for the Island Innovation blog, editing guest submissions, and assisting with webinar promotion and presentation creation.

I have been working with the Island Innovation team for one year and during that time it has been inspiring to see it expand in many positive ways. This includes the increasingly diverse international team, growing global Ambassador program and expanding number and scope of impactful projects we’re involved in, such as the hugely successful Virtual Island Summit.

Having studied International Development at the University of East Anglia and previously having lived and worked abroad in several countries, I am deeply passionate about trying to improve the world, reduce inequality and environmental destruction and promote sustainable development. It is fantastic to be part of a forward-thinking organisation involved in projects that are truly making a positive global impact.

I currently live in the city of Norwich in the East of England. While it is undoubtedly a very pleasant location, with many positive attributes including being very pedestrian-friendly and its wide selection of independent shops and cafes, I am looking forward to travelling and working abroad again as a digital nomad (once possible) and exploring more of our beautiful planet!

Surprising fact: I’m part British, Ukrainian and Italian
