Hundreds of millions of people have been working from home over the past year since the COVID-19 pandemic began. During the ongoing lockdowns, people’s homes have also become their offices, as well as where they exercise, and socialise through Zoom or Slack. While a high percentage of workers want to remain working remotely post-pandemic, they are also seeking freedom and a return to a significantly more varied lifestyle.

If this is the case for you, then the beautiful Caribbean island of Dominica could be the perfect option. The Dominican government has created an enticing new programme called ‘Work In Nature‘ (WIN) to attract remote workers from around the world.

This programme was discussed yesterday during our ‘Discover Dominica’s “Work in Nature” programme’ webinar. Island Innovation CEO James Ellsmoor talked with Samantha Letang, a representative from Discover Dominica, as well as Hannah Gaventa, a remote worker on the island, about the details and many benefits of Dominica’s new WIN programme.

As highlighted by Samantha, the government of Dominica’s management of the pandemic has been exemplary which has resulted in the island being virtually free of the virus. While there are still common-sense safety measures in place such as social distancing and mask-wearing, the essential lifestyle elements of freedom and fun that personify Dominica are still present.

This means that once you are living in Dominica, you will be able to enjoy the many benefits of remote working, combined with the freedom available across the island.

Live and Work in Dominica

The WIN programme is aimed specifically at digital nomads and remote workers who are bored with continual lockdowns combined with the monotony of working from home day after day. The Visa allows individuals, families and business teams to relocate to Dominica and live, work and rejuvenate for up to 18 months. Your stay doesn’t have to end there though, as it can be extended again after 18 months!

Dominica has safe transport systems, hospitals and schools which are all of a high standard. The entire island enjoys excellent internet connectivity, a vital element for those seeking a preferable remote working location.

Why you should choose Dominica

Dominica is known as the Nature Island of the Caribbean and is a tropical paradise loved by travellers across the world. This safe, English-speaking country has a wide variety of accommodation options as well as excellent education facilities.

Naturally beautiful, this lush island provides a sanctuary for those wanting to reconnect with nature. It is the ideal place to truly find that life-work balance. Whether you choose an extended or a short-term escape from the world, Dominica’s natural environment, friendly people, and laid back lifestyle will help to rejuvenate your body and your mind.

Once you have turned off your laptop for the day, you will find plenty of incredible experiences to discover. The island has mountains to climb, rainforests to explore, natural and cultural sites to enjoy, a vast network of hiking trails, and pristine and dramatic coral reefs for snorkelers and scuba divers. You can see whales and dolphins in the surrounding waters all year round, colourful tropical gardens provide a backdrop for hot volcanic spas, and there are two species of parrot that exist nowhere else on earth.

Hannah’s experience of working remotely from Dominica has been extremely positive and she described the many benefits that she has found while living and working there.

These benefits have included:

  • The warm, friendly and welcoming nature of the local population.
  • The freedom and spontaneity of the lifestyle she can enjoy there, due to the ease of movement and proximity of friends.
  • The community she has become part of which includes Dominicans and other international remote workers.
  • The incredible nature and beauty of the island.

We are very pleased to work with the Discover Dominica team to help promote Dominica’s Work In Nature programme and the island as a remote work destination that is perfect for people from all over the world.
