World Bank President in Tuvalu says youth skills key to climate change plan
World Bank President Ajay Banga said that young people in the Pacific Island nation of Tuvalu need training to help them move and adapt to climate change as he visited the frontline of the battle against rising sea levels. On the first visit by a World Bank chief to Tuvalu – where 11,00 people live on 26 square km of land stretched across nine atolls – the impact of the changes was clear, he said, as the nation fortified its ports and reclaimed coastal land.

Surangel S. Whipps Jr., president of the tiny Pacific island nation of Palau, wants more countries to join him in calling for a moratorium on deep-sea mining. This prospective industry aims to extract sought-after minerals like copper, cobalt and rare earth metals from the deep seabed. As global interest in deep-sea mining grows, nations have been divided on whether to allow the industry to proceed.
Island Innovation’s clients and partners the Saint Lucia National Conservation Fund (SLUNCF), and the Caribbean Biodiversity Fund (CBF), in affiliation with RedLAC, will host the XXVI RedLAC Congress presented by the Sandals Foundation in October 2024 (Network of Latin American and Caribbean Environmental Funds).
The in-person annual congress, which will be held in the Eastern Caribbean for the first time, is the premier regional gathering for environmental funds of Latin America and the Caribbean to exchange experiences on environmental finance and opportunities in the world of environmental conservation.
This global event promotes the exchange of knowledge and experiences between member funds and nurtures alliances with other environmental funds and networks such as CAFE (Consortium of African Environmental Funds)
