Island Voices' Impact at the 28th Conference of the Parties

Expectations are high at this year’s COP. Small Island Developing States (SIDS) and Sub-National Island Jurisdictions (SNIJs) from around the world have been gathering during the past few days to reinforce their positions on key priorities necessary for providing SIDS with the optimal means of coping with the escalating impacts of climate change.

As the conference begins today, a major focus has already been set: the Loss and Damage fund. Indeed, at last year’s COP27 in Egypt, countries agreed to establish a fund to address climate-related ‘loss and damage’. This year, recommendations on the basics of the fund’s structure, governance and funding are expected to be set out.
