Collaborating for Climate Finance Solutions

The 1st Forum on Climate Finance for Sub-National Island Jurisdictions (SNIJs) is the last one of our series of in-person events, happening on May 30th after the main summit has concluded. Co-hosted with the Special Envoy for Bonaire, St. Eustatius and Saba and the Government of Curacao, we want to provide a space for collaboration and innovation among regional governments, cities, and local authorities and highlight the unique challenges and opportunities sub-national island jurisdictions (SNIJs) face in accessing and managing climate finance for adaptation and mitigation.

Sub-National Island Jurisdictions (SNIJs) and Overseas Territories (OTs) face unique barriers when accessing climate finance. This session will present three case studies exploring different finance models tailored to the specific needs of these regions. We will examine how innovative financial solutions—such as blended finance, green bonds, and impact investment—can be effectively adapted to support climate adaptation and mitigation projects in island contexts. By analysing these case studies, we will highlight strategies for developing finance solutions that work for SNIJs and OTs, bridging the gap to unlock vital resources and encourage private sector participation in climate action.

Participants will work closely with financial experts, development banks, and key stakeholders to explore and refine funding models, financing mechanisms, and partnership opportunities. The session will provide practical tools for securing climate finance, addressing barriers, and identifying sustainable investment strategies that support local climate resilience and development goals.
