Julian has more than 22 years’ experience with national and international tax regulations and tax administration. As former Director of Fiscal Affairs and Director General of Customs of the Netherlands Antilles and Curacao, Julian was the principal advisor to the government on all local and international tax matters. As Director of Customs he also led the complete reorganization and modernization of the Customs department of the Netherlands Antilles. In 2014 he also led the modernization of the Aruban Customs organization as interim Director General. Julian currently also teaches Indirect taxes at the University of Curacao for the Fiscal Masters, he serves as a member of the Social Economic Council (SER), the Daily board of VBC, the Supervisory board of the Children’s Museum and as acting President of the Supervisory board of the Central Bank of Curacao and Sint Maarten.

As lead engagement partner of most Deloitte Dutch Caribbean clients in Curacao, Aruba, Bonaire and Saint Martin, Julian serves all major clients with respect to their direct and indirect tax issues. Julian has also been involved in various tax restructuring projects, both locally and internationally. His client base includes multi-nationals, large financial institutions and a significant number of major local customers in Curacao, Aruba, Saint Martin and Bonaire. Julian also frequently assists clients in Surinam. As of 2021 Julian was a founding member of the Deloitte Dutch Caribbean Mangrove Foundation in which he is currently also one of the directors. With this foundation a reforestation partnership has been concluded with the Ryan de Jong Foundation.

As of October 1st Julian was appointed as the Strategic and Sustainability leader of Deloitte in the Dutch Caribbean.

Dr. Manfred van Veghel, Director, EcoSense is a distinguished expert who has seamlessly bridged the worlds of marine biology and organizational complexity. With a PhD in marine biology, specializing in tropical coral reefs, he possesses a deep understanding of one of the world’s most intricate and species-rich ecosystems.

His academic journey has equipped him with invaluable insights into the complexities of nature, and he has masterfully translated this experience into the realm of organizations. Dr. van Veghel’s unique perspective enables him to navigate and enhance the intricacies of various organizational structures.

Dr. Manfred van Veghel’s ability to draw parallels between the natural world and the intricate fabric of organizations positions him as a visionary capable of transforming complexity into success. Manfred is the consortium lead of 7 local organizations and project manager for the Resembid Project of the Ramsar site Klein Curacao, a EU supported initiative of the Curaçao Government to implement management for the uninhabited island of Klein Curaçao. He will share some innovative approaches that are implemented in this specific project.

Being born and growing up in Niagara Falls, Tourism is a part of Gary’s DNA. He has been lucky enough to work in Tourism Mecca’s such as the Cayman Islands, Muskoka Ontario, Fernie BC, Lake Louise AB and a few other locations throughout his career and has a world view that not many other people can bring to the table. Gary has corporate experience working for companies such as Fairmont Hotels and Resorts, Marriott Hotels and Atlific Hotels. Gary’s experience has made him an expert in external stakeholder relations, corporate communications and he has done a lot of work with traditional media.

Ciaretta was born and raised in Curacao. She has a Bachelor and Master of Science degree in Environmental Science, with a specialization in Environmental Policy and Management.

She is a researcher by heart, in her free time a weightlifter, a crossfitter and likes to walk in nature. Ciaretta started her professional career at the age of 27 in 2010, as a junior policy advisor at the Ministry of Health, Environment and Nature. Since then she has held several positions within the organization.

Sustainability has been and still is at the heart of everything what Ciaretta’s does. As a versatile policy professional, she gained experience in coordinating national, regional, and international policy processes in the field of sustainability, climate change and adaptation, water management, sustainable development goals, ocean policy, circular economy, waste management, and socially relevant topics. She is also an expert in complex social issues and in providing support to the implementation of policy processes.

She furthermore participates in different working groups within government on the topics of water and climate change. Today she will be presenting in her capacity as Project Lead to the Resembid Project Klein Curaçao.
