The Global Sustainable Islands Summit 2025 in Saint Kitts and Nevis is well and truly underway!
Over 400 delegates from 50+ islands across five oceans have gathered in the Twin Island Federation for this year’s GSIS, hosted by the Government of Saint Kitts and Nevis in partnership with Island Innovation. The first two Forums on youth empowerment and geothermal energy held earlier this week were resounding successes, each highlighting and mirroring the ambition of current and future island leaders.
With the main Summit featuring a comprehensive 3-day program covering critical island priorities—from marine conservation and sustainable tourism to renewable energy, emerging technologies, and resilience building—the stage has been set for dynamic cross-sector discussions on securing a prosperous and sustainable future for island communities worldwide
Hear from our team, attendees, and sponsors on how the first few days of the summit has been going:
The Island Youth Forum
The Island Youth Forum set a powerful tone for the entire Summit, marking an important shift in recognising that youth shouldn’t just be consulted on climate policy—they should be involved from the ground up, shaping it from day one. Over two intensive days, young changemakers brought fresh ideas, digital fluency, and deep urgency to workshops and discussions, approaching island challenges with innovative thinking around technology, community-building, and long-term vision—exactly what today’s policy landscape demands.

The Geothermal Energy Forum
The Geothermal Forum in Nevis provided the opportunity for high-level regional stakeholders and experts to discuss the region’s renewable energy future, and how the SKNICE project can set a blueprint for other island communities.

Climate-Positive Partnership
Further ensuring the conference’s positive impact, Sustainable Travel International has offset 283 MT of carbon emissions, roughly equivalent to the amount of carbon produced by attendees’ travels to St Kitts and Nevis, making the week-long conference a low-carbon event supporting certified offset programmes.
