Seychelles’ President highlights country’s work to join collective efforts to resolve world’s ocean challenges
President Wavel Ramkalawan highlighted Seychelles’ efforts to join the world in a collective action to resolve the world’s most pressing ocean challenges in his opening remarks at the Ocean Decade Alliance meeting (State House). Ramkalawan, one of the Patrons of the Ocean Decade Alliance, was in Barcelona, Spain to participate in the United Nations Ocean Decade Conference 2024.
Tonga’s prime minister resigns as defense minister
Prime Minister Siaosi Sovaleni told Parliament he had resigned as defense minister and that Fekita ‘Utoikamanu had resigned as foreign minister and tourism minister, according to a statement on the Tongan Parliament’s website.The statement gave no explanation and said no successors had been named.

The United Nations holds a major gathering every 10 years to shape the development agenda for Small Island Developing States (SIDS). The next one, SIDS4, will be held in Antigua-Barbuda from May 27th to May 30th, focusing on achieving long-term prosperity and resilience for island nations.
By the end of the SIDS4 week, all efforts will culminate in creating a new development plan (the Antigua & Barbuda Accord) for 2024-2034, reflecting the growing influence of island nations in shaping global solutions for sustainability challenges. Our team will be in Antigua and Barbuda to participate in the conference as we are hosting several side events on-site in collaboration with our partner organisations.
