Two Caribbean athletes just made history at the 2024 Paris Summer Olympic Games—winning their countries their first ever Olympic medals. And not just any medals; both were gold. Saint Lucia’s Julien Alfred beat out Team USA’s Sha’Carri Richardson, the reigning World Champion who was heavily favored to take home the gold in the women’s 100-m sprint.

China has lent to Vanuatu money for road upgrades, which have been celebrated locally for easing travel and promoting economic growth. But Vanuatu’s climbing debt levels, combined with economic shocks from natural disasters and a collapsed national airline, may make it more cautious about taking on additional debt.
Curacao Joins CARICOM as Newest Associate Member
Curacao’s membership was formalized during a ceremony at the opening of CARICOM’s heads of government summit in Grenada. The event saw the participation of various leaders, including the Prime Minister of Grenada, Dickon Mitchell, who assumed the role of CARICOM Chairman from outgoing Chairman, President Dr. Irfaan Ali.
