Worldwide interest in the Global Sustainable Islands Summit 2025 co-hosted by the Government of Saint Kitts and Nevis in collaboration with Island Innovation is peaking ahead of the event slated to start in 3 days. The conference will feature a full week of discussions highlighting the solutions being developed by island communities.
Highlighting the importance and impact of these communities, #GSIS2025 has received wide-ranging support from major regional and international stakeholders, such as the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) and the CARICOM Development Fund. These two intergovernmental organisations, along with all our valued sponsors and partners, are collectively contributing to the region’s transition to sustainable economic development, harmonising the efforts and synergies of communities. Their shared contributions have enabled comprehensive programme development focused on climate resilience strategies and innovative financing mechanisms specifically tailored for island nations facing unique environmental challenges.
Young Leaders' Impact at #GSIS2025
Sharing knowledge and experiences are major components of capacity-building, whether across sectors, industries, or seas, the future of islands rests in collaboration. At #GSIS2025, this is best highlighted by the Irish government funding programme Our Shared Ocean, the UNFCCC’s Youth for Capacity programme, and the Caribbean Development Bank sponsoring the participation of a total of 25 young leaders working in advocacy, research, and policy in SIDS. These young changemakers will participate in specialised workshops and sessions throughout the summit, bringing fresh perspectives and innovative solutions to longstanding sustainability challenges.
Climate-Positive Partnership
Further ensuring the conference’s positive impact, Sustainable Travel International has offset 283 MT of carbon emissions, roughly equivalent to the amount of carbon produced by attendees’ travels to St Kitts and Nevis, making the week-long conference a low-carbon event supporting certified offset programmes.
Our shared commitment extends beyond carbon offsetting to implementing sustainable practices throughout the event, including waste reduction initiatives and locally-sourced catering that showcases the island’s agricultural heritage whilst minimising environmental impact. This partnership with Sustainable Travel International reflects our broader commitment to environmental responsibility. The summit will feature a robust agenda of side events, panel discussions, and policy dialogues addressing critical issues such as renewable energy transition, sustainable tourism, climate adaptation, and agricultural resilience. Experts from across the globe will share evidence-based best practices that have proven successful in island contexts, with particular focus on scalable solutions that can be adapted to fit various geographical and socioeconomic circumstances.
