About Timothy Austin
Tim currently works with the Cayman Islands’ Government Department of Environment (DoE) as the Deputy Director. The DoE is the local organization responsible for the management and protection of natural resources. As the DoE’s Deputy Director he has direct responsibility for the Department’s Research and Assessment Section undertaking natural environment monitoring and research efforts in order to detect, quantify and understand changes in local ecosystems, and make recommendations to prevent further deterioration and provide input to national policies and plans. Tim grew up in the Cayman Islands spending his childhood snorkeling and diving the reefs, but completed his formal education in the United Kingdom with a degree in Zoology and Marine Biology and Masters in Oceanography. He has been with the DoE since 1995 working on all aspects of natural resource management.
