Client Feature: Caribbean Biodiversity Fund Launches CCFC2021

As illustrated recently by hurricane Fiona in the Caribbean and skyrocketing costs of fuel, island communities are vulnerable to external shocks. On one hand, severe weather conditions are capable of damaging critical energy infrastructure, as Fiona did in Puerto Rico, and on the other, fuel price increases can have wider implications for island nations.

Island Innovation is proud to be providing our expert virtual event organisation services to the Caribbean Biodiversity Fund to organise The Caribbean Conservation Finance Congress 2021.

The first edition of this Congress focuses on building and showcasing Caribbean sustainable financing solutions for conservation and sustainable development, exchanging experiences among Caribbean actors, and learning from other regions and global initiatives.

Establishing long-term and sustainable financing solutions is crucial to successfully implement the nature-based solutions and approaches needed to ensure the availability of natural resources and the services they provide to the people and economies of the Caribbean. While important strides have been made region-wide, conservation finance is still a relatively new and evolving field or area of work in the Caribbean.

Prior to 2008, activities on sustainable finance for conservation were limited, with key efforts related to the establishment of a few national-level conservation trust funds (e.g. Environmental Fund of Jamaica and PACT Belize) and studies related to protected areas sustainable finance gaps. During the last 13 years, the conservation finance landscape in the Caribbean has changed significantly with now over 15 conservation trust funds established and in operation throughout the region, many governments prioritizing in their environmental agenda the need for sustainable financing, and multiple efforts around debt conversion deals for nature, among many other initiatives.

The Caribbean Conservation Finance Congress 2021 will be held virtually on July 6-8 in a joint effort by the Caribbean Biodiversity Fund and the Saint Lucia National Conservation Fund. Island Innovation is providing our services in branding, design, web development, social media, marketing, communications, event tech organisation and live support, and is honoured to contribute and develop this work after the collaboration on CCI-CBF Week in 2020.
