In the heart of the Irish Sea, a transformative endeavor is underway on the Isle of Man, aiming to reshape the landscape of dementia care through the power of shared experiences. Manx Care, the island’s healthcare authority, has launched the ‘In Your Shoes’ initiative, a series of engagement events designed to bring together carers, families, and healthcare professionals in a unique collaborative effort. With the inaugural session set for 19 March 2024, this initiative seeks to bridge the gap between those affected by dementia and those providing care, by listening to the voices that matter the most.
Building Bridges Through Dialogue
The ‘In Your Shoes’ initiative represents a significant leap towards an empathetic and inclusive approach to healthcare on the Isle of Man. By inviting up to 20 participants, including service users, carers, families, and healthcare staff, to the first event, Manx Care is setting the stage for open and meaningful conversations. Karen Maddox, representing Manx Care, has highlighted the importance of these discussions, stressing that the insights gained from carers and families will play a crucial role in shaping the future of dementia care on the island. This initiative not only aims to enhance the quality of care but also to ensure that services are designed with a deep understanding of the needs and experiences of those they serve.
