From the remote villages of the Solomon Islands to the aged care facilities of Australia, Romity Huka’s journey is one of resilience and determination. Driven by a desire to care for the sick and his passion for national service, Romity broke through boundaries and pursued a career as a nurse.
His journey, though challenging, was made possible by the unwavering support of his family and friends, as well as the opportunities provided by the Pacific Australia Labour Mobility (PALM) scheme.
Romity’s early life was marked by both joy and hardship. While his father’s support provided stability and comfort, his passing left a void in Romity’s life. Despite this setback, Romity remained steadfast in his pursuit of education. It was with the help of his cousin, Mr. Reeves Billy, that Romity was able to complete his secondary education and achieve his dream of becoming a nurse at the Solomon Islands National University.
Upon graduating from nursing school, Romity embarked on a new chapter in his journey, traveling to Australia to work in the aged care sector. This experience proved to be both rewarding and humbling. Romity immersed himself in the diverse cultural landscape of Australia and learned about the unique needs of the Indigenous and elderly residents.
