The decisions made by world leaders in the 26th edition of the annual ‘Conference of the Parties’ (COP26) in Glasgow this November will have long-term effects for all of those living on islands and in coastal areas.
The negotiations held during this year’s conference should provide a platform to explore the unique climate-related challenges facing Small Island Developing States (SIDS), which experience extreme vulnerability to environmental disasters. They should also ensure adequate attention is paid to the need to finance climate adaptation.
Reports by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change have shown that between now and 2030 is the crucial period, as this window of time could be the last chance to halt the climate catastrophe. The time to act is NOW!
We are committed to helping our audience stay informed about this critical issue and doing everything in our power to help tackle the climate crisis. We invite you to go to the Island Innovation website and register to be a part of Island Space@COP26.
