The Virtual Island Summit 2022 brought together 10,000 people from around the world to discuss ideas, share innovative solutions and establish cooperation for advancing sustainable development on islands worldwide. The session recordings are already available! Watch or re-watch the sessions and feel free to share them with friends and colleagues to spread the knowledge!
On Tuesday, 4 October, we celebrated #WorldAnimalDay! A day of action, among many others, recognised worldwide for animal rights and welfare. A day to reflect, even more, on the impact we have on the rich ecosystems that we are part of. A day to highlight wildlife conservation, but also mitigation of invasive species. Indeed, invasive species are among the greatest drivers of biodiversity loss. By significantly modifying or disrupting the ecosystems they enter, invasive species can cause devastating environmental and economic harm. For island communities worldwide, the challenges of ensuring biosecurity and invasive species management are compounded by a reliance on global trade and international tourism.
During the Virtual Island Summit 2022, representatives from the public and non-profit sectors in the Cayman Islands discussed ongoing efforts to mitigate invasive species and prevent new introductions. Check out this session sponsored by the Ministry of Sustainability & Climate Resiliency, Cayman Islands Government!
